Bethel Park senior apartments targeted for late 2018 opening
For decades, motorists on the Bethel Park stretch of McMurray Road have been treated to wide swaths of wooded areas along their commutes.
Lately, they’ve probably noticed a lot fewer trees left standing.
Heavy equipment has been working, for example, on the long-forested property at McMurray and Limestone Drive to pave way for new development. Projected at one point as the site of a supermarket and later new home to the South Hills branch of the YMCA, the land eventually was sold to the Clover Group of Buffalo, N.Y.
In December 2015, Bethel Park Council approved Clover’s plans to construct a 135-unit apartment complex for people ages 55 and older who are capable of living independently
“We are very excited to begin work on our new community in Bethel Park,” Emily Brady, Clover vice president of operations, said a year and a half later. “The project is proceeding well, and our target opening will be December 2018.”
According to information presented to the council, the complex will have two entrances and exits, one on Limestone Road and the other on McMurray Road. It will also have an extensive sidewalk system that will connect with the nearby Montour Trail.
Clover has a similar project under construction in the region: Lafayette Square Senior Apartments on Steubenville Pike in North Fayette Township.
Council also has authorized municipal officials to submit an application to the state Department of Transportation for a Limestone-McMurray traffic signal. No timetable for its installation was available from the state Department of Transportation.
