St. Clair Hospital doctors grow all out for ‘Febru-hairy’ fundraiser
The doctors at St. Clair Hospital in Mt. Lebanon were just itching to shave their beards after participating in a “Febru-hairy” fundraiser last month.
Dr. Vincent Reyes Jr., section chief for the hematology and oncology department at the hospital, organized the fundraiser and enlisted 23 doctors to grow facial to raise money for the St. Clair Hospital Foundation’s oncology fund, which supports various programs for cancer patients at the hospital.
Each doctor who participated donated $100 into the fund, but had to double or triple that amount if he decided to shave during the month.
In all, 30 employees donated money, raising $5,000 for the fund.
The hospital nurses also voted for the best beard, which went to Dr. Antonio Ripepi, a general surgeon at the hospital, who received a gift card for a free haircut and shave at Maestro’s Barber Shop in Bridgeville.
A similar fundraiser last year in the oncology department raised $1,000 for Casting for Recovery.
