TopGolf shows interest in South Fayette’s Newbury site
The estimated $450 million Newbury development in South Fayette Township might be on the verge of landing a major commercial tenant.
EQA Landmark Communities, the developer of the Newbury plan near the Bridgeville exit of Interstate 79, recently submitted an application to the township for a TopGolf to be located on some of the 300 acres available.
TopGolf, with the “Top” standing for target-oriented practice, is a new-age approach to driving ranges by installing microchips into the golf balls used in the climate-controlled facility to track distances and accuracy.
Bringing the driving range experience to a different level are the games, leagues and classes offered, along with a restaurant, flat-screen televisions and other amenities in the 31 TopGolf locations throughout the world. A TopGolf representative said that the Dallas-based company is interested and exploring the area, although he didn’t have any current updates.
According to its website, TopGolf served more than 10.5 million guests and had more than 31.5 million various games played at its venues in 2016.
The residential side of the Newbury development has gone according to plan;, although finding a major commercial tenant for the former brownfield site has been elusive.
The formal application will be discussed by the South Fayette Township Planning Commission at its next scheduled meeting March 23.
