Divers place at states
Trevor Mahoney of South Fayette completed his scholastic diving career as one of the top local finishers in the PIAA championships held March 25-26 at Bucknell University. The senior secured all-state honors with a fifth-place finish in the Class AA finals.
Mahoney scored 382.60 points in the competition but that was not enough to overtake Dillon Novak. The Big Spring senior won the AA title with a 518.90 score.
Former South Fayette resident Roman Myron placed a notch ahead of Mahoney. The Mercyhurst Prep sophomore finished fourth with a 383.60 score.
For Mahoney, it was his fourth appearance at states. He earned all-state honors as a junior, capturing the bronze medal. For his career, Mahoney won two WPIAL titles.
Mt. Lebanon placed two divers in the Top 10 of the Class AAA competition.
Owen Johns secured ninth place. The sophomore racked up 313.90 points.
Lucas Bumgarner took the 10th position. The junior registered 309.15 points.
Jake Hedrick won the AAA competition. The Hershey senior compiled a 485.25 score.
