Bishop Canevin hires new girls’ basketball coach to replace Joyce

Bishop Canevin High School recently promoted Scott Dibble to head coach of its girls’ basketball team. Dibble served as an assistant coach for the past two years and helped the team to back-to-back WPIAL titles and a second-place finish in the PIAA tournament this winter.
Scott replaces Tim Joyce, 59, who was dismissed April 24.
Prior to joining the Lady Crusaders’ coaching staff, Dibble was the varsity girls’ head coach at New Castle High School, the associate men’s coach at the Community College of Butler County and head coach at Villa Maria Academy in Erie. There he led the team to state championships six times in twelve years.
“It was obvious to us that we had the best candidate for the job right here at Bishop Canevin,” athletic director Shawn Holup said. “Scott has proven himself to be a valuable asset to our girls’ basketball program and the school itself He has the experience, energy and enthusiasm that inspires our girls to go above and beyond. Scott’s leadership and communication skills, coupled with his solid work ethic, is sure to have a positive influence on our players,” Holup said.
Scott has coached teams to numerous titles, including three state banners at Villa Maria. In 2009-10, he was named PIAA State Coach of the Year.
“We are extremely excited to have someone with the integrity and character Scott has to lead our girls’ basketball program to even greater success,” commented Principal Ken Sinagra.
Joyce built Canevin’s girls’ basketball program into a power, winning three district and one state titles in the past five years. In 15 seasons, he posted a 293-123 record.
