Bethel, Peters advance in girls’ lacrosse

Bethel Park and Peters Township advanced to the quarterfinals of the WPIAL AAA playoffs in girls’ lacrosse with respective victories against Norwin, 12-9, and Shaler, 13-5.
For the Hawks, Kayte Zeiler exploded for six tallies. With two goals each were Madison Miller, Zoe Zilcosky and Jenny Gavett.
For the Indians, Alyssa Ference fired in seven goals. Kennedy King followed with three tallies. MacKenzie Lehman (2) and Emily Anderson completed the scoring. Erin Gummersbach and Tia Mussitch had assists.
Bethel Park now visits Mt. Lebanon at 7:30 p.m. May 17. The Blue Devils received a first-round bye and are the No. 2 seed behind Fox Chapel.
Peters Township, which defeated the Blue Devils, 10-9, during the regular season, will battle Pine-Richland at 6 p.m. May 17 at Mt. Lebanon.
In the Indians’ win against Lebo earlier this month, Mia Toscano, Gummersbach, Anderson and Mara Rayburg tallied two scores apiece while King and Ference chipped in one goal each. Toscano and Kyra Cunningham registered assists. The loss was the first of the season for Lebo which won the Section 1-AAA title.
Also in girls’ lacrosse, Upper St. Clair defeated Sewickley Academy, 15-9. The Panthers advanced to the quarterfinals and they will face the Foxes at 7:30 p.m. May 17 at Fox Chapel.
In Class AA action, Seton-La Salle defeated Greensburg Central Catholic, 16-18. The Lady Rebels battle Franklin Regional at 6 p.m. May 17 at Hampton.
