Police clear Peters Township municipal complex following threat
Two Peters Township schools are on partial lockdown after a threat was made at the nearby municipal building.
Peters Middle School and McMurray Elementary were locked down while the municipal building was checked. The school district called parents and indicated that the threat was not against any school and the action was precautionary.
According to township police, a township employee at about 8:30 a.m. discovered a printout on a municipal building printer stating: “I installed several explosives in the building,” and demanding a sum of money to be wired by a specific date.
“Out of an abundance of caution, several buildings were evacuated, and the Pennsylvania State Police bomb detection K-9 unit was called to the scene to search the building,” Peters police noted in a preliminary statement. “No evidence of explosives was detected.
“Once the scene was cleared by the K-9, everyone affected by this incident was permitted to return to their day-to-day business,” at about 11:15, according to police.
