Theater troupe presents Tony Award-winning musical
June 2-4
‘The Music Man, Jr.’
St. Benedict the Abbot Church’s Abbey Players theater troupe will present its spring show, “The Music Man, Jr.,” June 2-4, in the church’s Pope Benedict Center, McMurray.
There’s trouble in River City when a fast-talking salesman gets his heart stolen by the town librarian. Based on Meredith Willson’s six-time-Tony Award-winning musical comedy, “The Music Man, Jr.” is filled with wit, warmth and good old-fashioned romance.
The show features students from Peters Township, Canon-Mac, Bethel Park, Upper St. Clair, Mt. Lebanon and Lincoln Park Performing Arts schools, and will star troupe high school seniors Joe Belfiore as Professor Harold Hill, Laura Shope as Marion, Jonah Philipp and Ryan Bastyr as Barbershop Quartet members, Emily Koerbel as Alma and Johnny Traficante as Mayor Shinn. Senior Sarah Gotkiewicz assisted with the production as a student choreographer.
Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. matinee showing on Saturday, and a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Sunday.
Tickets will be available at the door. Proceeds from the show’s bake sale will benefit Relay for Life and proceeds from the gift basket raffle will benefit Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America.
