The state Department of Transportation earlier this month announced that Cheryl Moon-Sirianni has been appointed as the new district executive for PennDOT’s Engineering District 11, which covers a three-county Pittsburgh region.
She replaces Dan Cessna, who served as executive director for 12 years before leaving that position earlier this year to work for a private engineering firm.
“Cheryl has served with distinction in a variety of executive roles within the district, and we are confident she will meet and exceed the challenges in delivering the very best in transportation services to the people of Pittsburgh and the surrounding region,” PennDOT Secretary Leslie Richards said in a written statement.
Moon-Sirianni began her career with PennDOT in 1987 as a civil engineer trainee and has since progressed through various engineering positions.
She is now responsible for the planning and supervising of the state highway system in PennDOT’s Engineering District 11 that covers Allegheny, Beaver, and Lawrence counties. PennDOT owns and maintains 2,570 miles of state highway, 1,804 bridges and four tunnels in those three counties.
“I am honored to be selected for this position and excited to carry on the excellent work that has been done by the employees in the past,” Moon-Sirianni said. “I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead and I’m eager to carry on the mission of Secretary Richards by continuing to build and strengthen relationships with our local transportation partners.”
She earned her bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Penn State University and has held her professional engineer’s license since 1992. She resides in Economy, Beaver County.
