South Fayette Commissioner Gwen Rodi announced Nov. 14 that a Sheetz is on its way to South Fayette.

Rodi made the announcement of Sheetz’s arrival in the township during a commercial development event at Burns Scalo Real Estate’s newest office building, Beacon I, in Abele Business Park. On a panel of five speakers talking about South Fayette as “Allegheny County’s next boom town,” which was the name of the event, Rodi revealed that Sheetz plans to open a location in South Fayette.

Rodi said the Sheetz will be in Bursca Business Park right off Washington Pike. The approval proceedings will start with a review by the township’s planning commission before moving to the commissioners for a vote.

Commercial development in South Fayette has gone on a roller-coaster ride in the past year. The Newbury Market development recently signed a deal to have a TopGolf as an anchor tenant, and the construction on the business has begun and is projected to be finished by next summer. But Newbury also saw its agreement with UPMC for a hospital as its other anchor tenant fall through, while the township’s agreement with Horizon Properties Group for the Star City lot also ended.

Community Development Director Andrea Iglar said while nothing is official, the township is excited at the future of commercial development in South Fayette.

“We’re excited to see developments coming into the township, and Sheetz is a great example of that,” Iglar said. “Bursca Business Park has been doing work to add some businesses, and Sheetz will be a nice addition.”
