Car cruise comes to Bethel Park Community Day
Car cruise organizers have a message for owners of collectible vehicles:
“We like to say, ‘If you love it, bring it,'” Bethel Park resident Jim Gastgeb explained.
He is organizing the eighth annual Rev ‘Em up for Kids, presented by Pasta Too Family Italian Restaurant, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 9 at a different location than past events at the South Park Fairgrounds.
“To have the community more involved, we decided to change the venue to work in conjunction with Bethel Park’s Community Day,” Gastgeb said. “They have everything and more that we would have for Rev ‘Em Up for Kids, all the food vendors, all the activities for kids. We’re not going to miss a beat.”
Community Day kicks off with a parade starting at the municipal building at 9:00 a.m. and proceeding to the Bethel Park High School campus. There, special activities are scheduled until 4 p.m.
The car cruise will be set up near the main entrance to the campus off Church Road, across Black Hawk Drive from the Spencer Family YMCA, where there is room for about 300 vehicles.
“Anyone who’s from Bethel Park remembers the fields as the JV grass fields,” Gastgeb said.
The entry fee is $5 per participating show vehicle, with proceeds going toward the cost of providing recreational opportunities in Bethel Park. Plus this year, a new beneficiary is the Bethel Park Historical Society.
“The first 300 cars receive dash plaque and goodie bag full of car-related items, all compliments of Pasta Too Restaurant,” Gastgeb, who is president of the Bethel Park Board of Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services, reported.
“A fan favorite for the past seven years, and I’m sure this year will be no exception, is our event T-shirt,” he said. “We’ll be selling them this year, as well, with a brand-new design.”

During Community Day, approximately 70 community groups will provide activities, refreshments, games and entertainment, including the popular children’s train and The Whip amusement rides.
New attractions include:
• A disc jockey playing Top 25 selections for each year from 1950 to 2017.
• 3WS Sports Challenge, 10 a.m. to noon.
• Polynesian Prince and Princess Moana and Maui, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
• Trolls, 1 to 3 p.m.
• Balloon-twisting artist, 1 to 3 p.m.
• Bad Mixies radio-controlled monster trucks, all day.
