Mt. Lebanon, Upper St. Clair dominate Cal. U Meet

Mt. Lebanon dominated the boys’ division during the 46th Marty Uher Invitational held at California University of Pennsylvania.
Peter Cosentino and Patrick Anderson placed second and third behind champion Mark Brown from Greensburg Salem with time of 16:57.8 and 17:12.7 respectively. Cosentino’s time was a scant .2 behind the winner’s mark of 16:57.6.
Alex Brokaw finished fifth in 17:33.5 and Thomas Cosentino secured seventh in 17:37.5 to complete Lebo’s Top 10 showing.
In the Top 20 were Cameron Potts (11th), Jack Cameron (14th), David Deniziuk (15th) and Matt Sullivan (16th).
Savannah Shaw staked the Upper St. Clair girls to a second-place showing against University High. The senior secured second place in 18:46.7, less than 10 seconds off the winning pace set by Tashala Turner.
Sophomore Lauren Hart and freshman Claire Hoffman showed finished 12th and 14th respectively. Steph Grunwald and Nicole Naumann rounded out the scoring for the Lady Panthers.
The USC boys also finished second in the team standings. CJ Hess was the Panthers’ top runner, snagging eighth place. Also in the Top 20 were Tommy O’Brien (13th), Alex Shaw (18th) and Matt Higgs (20). Kasey Turner also pitched in on the score sheet for USC.
Both teams used the Cal Meet as a tune-up for the annual Red White and Blue Classic to be held Sept. 9 at Schenley Park.
“It’s the first big meet of the season and competition is always top notch,” said USC coach Doug Petrick of the RWB Classic. “The kids are amped and looking to improve upon last year’s performances.”
The Lebo girls finished fourth in the team standings. Alison Small scored 10th place for the Blue Devils. Roy Vigrass had a Top 20 showing in 17th position.
