Mt. Lebanon has activated PassportParking, a new app that allows drivers to pay for parking at any one of 434 on- and off-street metered spaces in the municipality, along with the Academy Avenue Lot pay station.

Download the Passport app from the App Store for iPhone or Google Play for Android phones and set a passcode during setup. Then add multiple vehicles and payment methods.

To park, open the app, enter the passcode, type in the zone number displayed on the meter, select vehicle and space, payment, length of stay and then confirm.

Drivers can set up notifications to be warned when time for the parking session is running low. They then can add time from the phone, as long as they have not exceeded the maximum time permitted at the space.

Parking history and receipts are stored in the app.

The system is integrated with parking enforcement. Through a feature that will be available in the summer, parking officers will print tickets from a portable printer and an image of the vehicle is stored with the violation notice.

Drivers still are able to pay at meters and pay stations using cash and credit cards.

“The app is part of the finance department’s five-year upgrade of parking facilities and services, which includes about $180,000 in updates to the two municipal garages and $45,000 in software,” Mt. Lebanon finance director Andrew McCreery said. “We’re excited to bring the convenience of mobile parking to our residents and guests.”

Benefit hockey game set

The Mt. Lebanon Fire Department hockey team is playing the public works department from 4 to 6 p.m. March 31 at Mt. Lebanon Ice Rink.

What started out as a friendly competition has evolved into a fundraiser for a public works employee who was injured.

There is no fee to get into the game, but donations will be taken at the door, and there will be a 50/50 drawing.
