Dormont Pub Tour set for April 28

The 12th annual Dormont Pub Tour fundraiser is scheduled for 7 p.m. to midnight April 28.
Participants in are the Apple Inn, Slapshots, R Bar, Albert’s, Sam’s Bar, Cain’s, Jamison, Breakers, Mexi-Casa, VFW Post 694 and Vasta. Tour T-shirts, the sale of which benefits the Friends of Dormont Pool, can be purchased at any of those locations for $16 through Friday.
The shirts were designed by illustrator Cameron Schmidt.
“I am a local artist living in Pittsburgh with a cartoony and whimsical aesthetic,” he said. “However, getting to do a tee design like this creates fun challenges and forces me to use a cleaner, more polished aesthetic.”
On the night of the event, the shirts are available for $20 at the tour booth, which will be set up in the shopping plaza at West Liberty and Wisconsin avenues. There, participants who complete the tour can enter to win prizes.
This year’s event is sponsored by Great Lakes Brewing Co., which was founded in Cleveland in 1988 by two brothers, Pat and Dan Conway. The brewery was the first of its kind to open in Ohio since before Prohibition.
As the company celebrates its 30th anniversary, Great Lakes maintains distribution to 13 states and is the 20th-largest craft brewery in the nation.
Dormont Pool opens for the season at noon May 26. It origins date back to 1920, when a man named Andrew Philp used rocks to dam a creek to make a wading pool. Friends of Dormont Pool Inc. was founded in 2006 to ensure that the pool remained open. The nonprofit helps generate long-term funding for repairs and upgrades.
