More than 16 cars were swept away by Mclaughlin Run in Upper St. Clair during the June 20 flood.
After weeks of detours, local drivers can once again travel on Morrow Road in Upper St. Clair.
The Morrow Road bridge, closed since the June 20 flooding, reopened to traffic on Aug. 2.
The Morrow Road bridge had just been replaced last year after several months of reconstruction. The bridge opened to traffic Dec. 17, 2017, nearly seven months to the day before the flood that killed an Upper St. Clair woman.
Wendy Abbott, 63, died when she was swept away in the floodwater. Township police suspect she was trying to walk along Morrow Road to her house after her car was overcome by water near Upper St. Clair tennis courts.
The bridge, while structurally sound, sustained damage to its sub-base and pavement during the flood. Walsh Construction/Engineering was the contractor hired to make the necessary repairs.
“The township appreciated the efforts from PennDOT and its contractors; first, for the initial replacement of the structure, and for the timely repairs following the storm,” township public works director George Kostelich said.
