Upper St. Clair moves school registration info online

While local students still have a few more weeks of summer vacation left, parents may have a homework assignment due before their kids head back to class.
Upper St. Clair’s back to school online registration began Aug. 6, but instead of receiving what sometimes seemed like reams of paper, student schedules and all the back to school forms that parents need to fill out can be accessed online by logging on through the parent portal. Bus assignments will also be listed but are subject to change until final approval on Aug. 20.
Tina Votjko, the district’s communication specialist, said the process has been streamlined to reduce the need for parents to keep listing the same information on multiple forms.
For parents with students who were in the district last year, data that was provided previously is already in the system. Families will be asked to verify the contact information that is currently on-file, update medical/health information, and sign-off on required notices.
In addition to the back to school forms, parents will choose whether to be included in the district’s phone directory. Parents must also review the student handbook, which is also online, with their children and sign and return a form stating they understand and have reviewed the student handbook with their children.
During the school board’s Aug. 6 meeting, Amy Pfender, director of student support services, emphasized the importance of everyone in the district reviewing the policy on bullying and harassment. The policy, which also includes cyberbullying and hazing, is included in the student handbook.
In other business, the board voted to reschedule the Aug. 13 regular meeting to Aug. 20 at 8 a.m.
