Firefighters able to save Mt. Lebanon house after roof fire reported

Almost a dozen departments responded to a house fire in Mt. Lebanon Aug. 10.
Mt. Lebanon fire Deputy Chief Loren Hughes said that he was thankful that the home in the Virginia Manor neighborhood could be saved.
The roof fire was called in at 9:10 a.m. and flames were extinguished within 15 minutes of crews being dispatched, he said. Firefighters were at the home until about 11:30 a.m. dealing with hotspots and embers.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Hughes said, but it is believed to be accidental and not suspicious. One person was home at the time and called the fire department, but got out safely, Hughes said. He did not release the address of the home.
Damage was mainly to the roof above the kitchen. One firefighter was taken to a local hospital for evaluation due to heat exhaustion and exertion, Hughes said. He was checked out and released.
Crews from Dormont, Castle Shannon, Bridgeville, Kirwan Heights, Mt. Oliver, Bethel Park, Green Tree, Bower Hill, East Carnegie, Glendale, Upper St. Clair, Medical Rescue Team South and the Salvation Army assisted.
