The Kmart in McMurray is closing in October.

An employee, who asked not to be identified, confirmed the closure and said the last day the store will be open is Oct. 14.

Yellow signs announcing the closure and other banners offering steep discounts on merchandise hung outside the store located at 4041 Washington Road. Workers were told of the impending closure last month.

Unlike previous closures of Kmart and Sears stores, parent company Sears Holdings has not formally announced its plans to shutter the McMurray store. Multiple phone calls to a corporate spokesman were not returned.

In January, the company announced the closure of 39 Sears stores and 64 Kmart locations, including the store at 1025 Washington Pike in Collier Township, which was a longtime anchor tenant in Chartiers Valley Shopping Center.

Sears also announced in May it was closing another 48 stores nationwide, including its locations at South Hills Village and the Mall at Robinson.
