Mt. Lebanon School District and the Mt. Lebanon PTA Council will host a presentation by Christopher Willard on Growing Up Mindful from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Aug. 20 in the Fine Arts Theatre at the high school, 155 Cochran Road.

The event is free and open to the public.

Willard is the author of five books, including “Growing Up Mindful: Essential Practices to Help Children, Teens, and Families Find Balance, Calm, and Resilience.” He is a nationally recognized clinical psychologist and consultant specializing in bringing mindfulness into education and psychotherapy, and teaches at Harvard Medical School.

“Dr. Willard brings a common-sense approach to helping children and adults develop competencies that lead to balance, calm, and resilience, critical to performance as a student, a parent and an educator,” Timothy Steinhauer, Mt. Lebanon School District Superintendent, said. “I can think of few topics that have more practical application for parents and educators.”

Willard’s presentation continues the district’s efforts to equip students with critical social and emotional learning competencies. The district has introduced various mindfulness practices to students and staff members as part its social and emotional learning initiative.

Willard will be available for a book signing in the lobby of the Fine Arts Theatre after his presentation.
