Weather cooperates for Peters Township tree lighting
Neither rain nor snow nor sleet will deter the annual Christmas tree lighting in Peters Township. And unseasonably warm weather certainly won’t, either.
The parking lot at the municipal complex filled quickly prior to the 6 p.m. event on Sunday, after the sun set on a sunny afternoon during which the temperature rose into the mid-60s, about 20 degrees above the high for Pittsburgh’s typical Dec. 2.
Those in attendance enjoyed a rendition of holiday favorites by McMurray Elementary School students, directed by Ray Cygrymus and lined up in front of Peters Township Public Library.
Following their performance, youngsters Ryleigh and Brayden Clark had the honor of turning on the switch to light the tree and other decorations, which will illuminate the area along East McMurray Road for the next month or so.
And as if that weren’t enough, a fire truck pulled up and out came Santa and Mrs. Claus, greeting excited children as they made their way inside the library, with the crowd in tow.
Santa proceeded to listen to what everyone wants for Christmas.
But the wishes of the tree-lighting organizers already had been fulfilled with the wonderful weather.
