Upper St. Clair commissioners approved a grant application for phase IIA of the perimeter trail project at Boyce Mayview Park during their Feb. 5 regular meeting.

The municipality is applying for a $250,000 grant through the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) as part of the plan to connect the Morton athletic complex and the community gardens section of the perimeter trail.

In September 2016, the board approved the extension of the perimeter trail from Ardolino’s restaurant to the community gardens, and from the community gardens to Rostron and Morton drives.

Phase IIA, estimated at $1 million, will start at Rostron Drive and continue about half the distance to the Morton athletic complex. In addition to the $250,000 grant from DCED, the township also plans to seek a RAD grant in 2019 for $100,000 and an Active Allegheny Grant for $50,000.

The township has already been awarded a DCNR grant for $300,000 and a RAD grant for $100,000 this year.

Because of the challenging topography, the township is looking at various options to connect the final section of the trail. When the entire project is finished, there will be over five miles of paved trail around the perimeter of the park.

In other business, the board approved contracts for township fleet vehicles: $98,370 to Tri-Star Motors for four public works vehicles, $35,475 to Whitmoyer Auto Group for one vehicle and $85,650 to Woltz & Wind Ford for three vehicles for the police department, and $37,920 to Woltz & Wind Ford for one staff vehicle.
