A driver struck and killed a pedestrian who was trying to cross a busy section of Route 19 after nightfall Feb. 19 in McMurray.

Washington County Coroner Tim Warco identified the victim as Richard Bryan Baurle, 45, of North Strabane.

He was pronounced dead at Canonsburg Hospital about an hour after being struck in the 4100 block off Washington Road by a sport utility vehicle. The identity of the driver of the vehicle has not yet been released.

Warco said the cause and manner of death are pending.

The accident was reported just before 8 p.m. It occurred in front of the Washington Circle commercial building in McMurray. First responders blocked the southbound lanes of the highway while police took measurements around the vehicle involved, which was later towed.

Police said the driver “remained on scene, and he was cooperative.”
