Tree recycling available in the South Hills

Bethel Park
Residents of Allegheny County can drop off non-artificial Christmas trees for recycling between dawn and dusk through Jan. 16 at any of nine county parks, including South Park. Trees can be taken to the parking lot of the wave pool, which is in Bethel Park, off McConkey Road.
Decorations, lights, tinsel and stands must be removed first. The trees will be mulched and used in the parks.
The wave pool at Settlers Cabin Park in Robinson Township is another county drop-off location.
Mt. Lebanon
Christmas trees will be picked up at curbside for recycling throughout the municipality on Jan. 13 and 20. Please have your tree at the curb the night before either collection date.
The contractor has been instructed to leave any trees that are in plastic bags. Trees also must not have any lights or decorations, including tinsel.
After Jan. 20, trees can be placed at curbside for regular trash pickup. They also can be dropped off at the public works facility, at 1250 Lindendale Drive, at any time between Jan. 13 and 20 in the designated area indicated with a tree recycling sign.
Peters Township
Recycle trees by dropping them off in Peterswood Park at the baseball fields parking area, behind outfield of Field 2. Trees will be converted to pine mulch beginning Jan. 19, after which no more trees will be accepted.
Residents also can place trees out for curbside garbage collection on normal collection days. Please have all items and decorations removed from trees prior to disposal.
South Fayette
Residents can drop off trees at the wood waste recycling center in Boys Home Park, 2121 Ridge Road, under these guidelines:
- No decorations, lights, tinsel or stands on Christmas trees
- No artificial trees
- No trees with branches larger than 8 inches in diameter
- No tree stumps
- No plastic bags
- No grass clippings
Upper St. Clair
For decades, Upper St. Clair residents dropped off their Christmas trees for recycling in the upper parking lot of the former South Hills branch of the YMCA on McMurray Road.
With the YMCA having relocated to Bethel Park, Upper St. Clair changed the drop-off site last year to the parking lot across Truxton Drive from the township’s public works building, 1751 McLaughlin Run Road.
The trees will be ground up for mulch for residents’ use.
