Peters Township resident Jesse Peitte was sworn in Jan. 2 as the McMurray-based magisterial district judge, who will preside over cases from Peters, Nottingham and Union townships plus Finleyville.
Pettit, who mounted a long-shot independent candidacy last year, succeeds longtime District Judge James Ellis, who chose not to seek a sixth, six-year term.
Meanwhile, Brandon Neuman resigned his seat as state representative from the Washington-based 48th District before he took the ceremonial oath of office to become a Washington County judge. The vacancy will likely bring a special election to fill his seat.
