School: Week of Jan. 10
Informational IB meeting
An informational meeting for parents of current fourth-, eighth- and/or 10th-graders interested in learning more about the International Baccalaureate program is set for 7 p.m. Jan. 24, in the Upper St. Clair High School Theatre. Attendees are asked to enter the school via the theatre entrance (the middle set of exterior doors).
The IB Middle Years Program covers the fifth-grade MYP at Boyce through the 10th-grade MYP at Upper St. Clair High School. The IB Diploma Program is offered to students in grades 11 and 12 at the high school.
This meeting will briefly review MYP and DP components and provide an opportunity for families to ask questions as they contemplate course and program selection for the 2018-19 school year. The presentation will be posted under “2017-2018 Presentations” on the district’s IB webpage following the event.
BP DECA
Forty-nine Bethel Park High School students successfully competed at the DECA District III Career Development Conference, finishing in the top three places in their respective events, and qualifying to compete at the State DECA Career Development Conference, which will be held in Hershey, Pa., in May.
Earning First Place Awards were seniors Cameron Busch (Logistics Event), Abigail Coltz (Hotel and Lodging Management), Samantha Dunn (Quick Service Restaurant Management), Chelsea Hallman (Entrepreneurship), Justin Lesnak (Marketing Communications), Greydon Tomkowitz (Human Resources Management), Sydney Borandi and Alaina Cerro (Buying and Merchandising Team), Gavin Campbell and Paige Davidson (Business Law and Ethics Team) and Tom Kennedy and Ty Miller (Sports and Entertainment Marketing Team).
Also earning First Place Awards were junior Alyssa George (Restaurant and Food Service Management), sophomores Sydney Burns (Business Services Marketing), Hunter Dorfner (Food Marketing), Kevin Kerr (Personal Financial Literacy), Christian McClaine (Principles of Hospitality and Tourism), Brian Torles (Principles of Business Administration) and freshmen Jeremy Buehler (Principles of Finance), Weeam Boumaza and Sammi Storey (Travel and Tourism Team), Emily Engel and Riley Turoski (Financial Analysis Team), and Nick Massari and Ryan Puskar (Marketing Management Team).
Fifteen students were awarded Second Place. They are junior Patra Hsu (Business Services Marketing), sophomores Marissa Christenson (Food Marketing), Sadie Coda and Shayna Postler (Business Law and Ethics Team) and freshmen Lucia Coccagno (Apparel and Accessories Marketing), Dan DelBene (Sports and Entertainment Marketing), Gabbie Dunn (Principles of Business Administration), Austin Orzechowski (Principles of Marketing), Dom Palombia (Logistics), Julia Casaldi and Amber Simeone (Travel and Tourism Team), Summer Lewis and Alessia Moreno (Buying and Merchandising Team), and Lianna Robbins and Olivia Schram (Hospitality Services Team).
Earning Third Place Awards were seniors Emma Beck (Marketing Communications), Christine Dunlap (Personal Financial Literacy), Karlie Olson (Hotel and Lodging Management), juniors Connor Price (Automotive Services Marketing), Eve Rosemeier (Apparel and Accessories Marketing), sophomore Mark Vighetti (Business Finance) and freshmen Makayla Yee (Entrepreneurship), Rafaelle Zallo (Principles of Business Administration) and Evan Zelt (Principles of Finance).
Bethel Park High School Marketing Teachers Emily Smoller and Maria Christenson prepared the students for this competition.
PMEA District Chorus
Twenty-five Bethel Park High School students successfully auditioned and have been selected to perform in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association’s District Chorus Concert, which will be held on Jan. 26 at East Allegheny High School.
Singing in this concert will be seniors Natalia Antkowiak (alto 2), Kayla Dell (soprano 1), Garrett Hoffman (bass 1), Michaela Isenberg (soprano 2), Geoff McKain (tenor 1), Tyler Petrossi (tenor 1) and Sarah Russell (soprano 2).
Also singing will be juniors William Brusoski (bass 2), Zach Janus (bass 2), Abby Kauric (soprano 2), Jaden Knight (soprano 1), Abilash Krishnachand (tenor 2), Anthony Lucchitti (tenor 2), Katelyn Marcovecchio (alto 1), Brian Pauley (bass 2), Connor Remington (bass 2), Cameron Sillman (tenor 1), Julianne Stein (alto 1), Jerry Varghese (tenor 1), Evan Welsh (bass 1) and sophomores James Counihan (tenor 2), John Gummo (bass 1), Molly Hoffman (soprano 2) and Olivia Neil (soprano 1).
This year was the first time PMEA auditioned students to be accompanists for the concert, and junior Jenelle Wu was selected as the first ever student accompanist for the PMEA District Chorus Concert. Bethel Park High School Choral Director Todd Kuczawa teaches the students.
PMEA Jazz Band
Three Bethel Park High School musicians successfully auditioned and were selected to play in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association’s Honors Jazz Band Concert, which was held Dec. 9 at Moon Area High School.
Representing Bethel Park in this concert were seniors Bruce Deal (bass), Noah Gearhart (bass trombone) and Kathryn Kimes (alto saxophone).
Bethel Park High School Band Director Chad Thompson teaches the students.
