St. Elizabeth events

African-American Read-in
The Bethel Park High School English Language Arts Department and the students in STAND (Standing Together Against Negativity and Discrimination) will host an African American Read-In at 2 p.m. Feb. 11 in the Bethel Park High School Large Group Instruction Room, 309 Church Road. Admission is free.
The event is part of the National Council of Teachers of English’s nationwide program, which is a poetry recitation and readers’ theater program celebrating literary selections for Black History Month.
STAND students will present poems, excerpts from speeches and spoken word performances from African-American authors. The Read-In is designed to be a celebration of African-American literature and music, including such authors as Angelou, Wilson, Baldwin, King and Hughes, plus original works by the students as well.
This is the fourth year that Bethel Park High School students have participated in this event.
BP kindergarten
Kindergarten preregistration for the 2018-2019 school year is underway in the Bethel Park School District.
Parents whose children will be age 5 on or before Sept. 1, 2018, are eligible to preregister their children at this time.
The preregistration form is available at http://www.bpsd.org/Downloads/Pre-Registration%20Form.pdf. Parents are asked to complete the form and return it to their child’s school in person or via mail by Feb. 9.
Kindergarten preregistration assists the school district with its planning for the upcoming school year.
Kindergarten registration will be held in March. Kindergarten orientation will be held in May.
USC kindergarten
Kindergarten registration for incoming Upper St. Clair kindergarten students and their families will be held mid-March at each of the district’s three elementary schools. Appointments, which last approximately 20 minutes, will be scheduled between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on each of the registration days. Families will be able to schedule their registration appointment online in late January or early February. Registration days are as follows:
• Baker Elementary, March 13 and 23
• Eisenhower Elementary, March 14 and 20
• Streams Elementary, March 15 and 21
Registration packets, containing all of the necessary registration forms, will be available for pick-up at the elementary schools beginning Feb. 20. Families are encouraged to obtain packets during school hours and return completed forms at the time of registration. Students registering for kindergarten must be 5 years of age by Sept. 1, 2018, to be enrolled for the 2018-19 school year. Proof of residency within the Upper St. Clair School District is required for enrollment.
