Dead raccoon in Upper St. Clair tests positive for rabies

The Allegheny County Health Department announced that a third raccoon has tested positive for rabies in the South Hills this year.
The dead raccoon was found recently near Murdstone Road and Salem Drive in Upper Saint Clair, the county said June 29.
A raccoon killed by dogs in Greene Tree in March tested positive for rabies, along with another one that was also killed by dogs in Bethel Park the following month.
The health department said four raccoons and four bats have tested positive for rabies in Allegheny County this year.
Anyone who sees an animal acting strangely or becoming threatening should immediately contact animal control, their local police department or the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Anyone who is bitten, scratched or exposed to saliva from a stray or wild animal should immediately cleanse the contact area with soap and water before seeking emergency medical treatment. The Allegheny County Health Department also should be notified of the incident by calling 412-687-ACHD.
