District judge’s Bethel Park building now equipped with AED

The building that houses District Judge Ron Arnoni’s office in the Hiras Professional at 2414 Lytle Road, Bethel Park, now has an AED ready for use in case of emergency.
The device is designed to deliver an electric shock to people who experience cardiac arrest, restoring the heart rhythm to normal.
According to the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation, approximately 326,200 people in the United States suffer such an episode when not at a hospital, and nine out of 10 of them die.
Arnoni, whose district covers Bethel Park and Upper St. Clair, worked with building owner John Hiras and manager Marv Levin on receiving bids for an AED, and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center helped share in the cost of securing one for placement in the lobby.
Training by a UPMC nurse took place in late June for members of the judge’s staff, along with other who were interested in learning how to use the device.
