The big day finally is arriving for Rosanne Javorsky.

In April, the Allegheny Intermediate Unit’s board of directors approved the Scott Township resident as interim executive director for the regional public education agency. On July 21, she takes over for Linda Hippert, who is and taking a position on the Point Park University faculty.

Javorsky transitions from her position of assistant executive director for teaching and learning, a position she has held since 2011, focusing on professional development, technical assistance and support for educational systems throughout the region. She has worked for the AIU for more than 30 years

Under her leadership, the AIU established the Center for Creativity, which provides primary and secondary educators with instructional resources, grant opportunities and learning opportunities as they integrate literacy and STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics – into teaching practices. The center has distributed more than $4 million to school districts for STEAM-related programs.

In her new position, Javorsky will lead more than 1,000 educators, administrators and support staff, with the AIU’s annual budget exceeding $160 million.

Hippert, a Presto resident who was hired to lead the AIU in 2009, had been a South Fayette School District administrator since 1990, serving as superintendent starting in 1996. Her 41-year career also includes serving as a high school principal and mathematics teacher.

Along with teaching at Point Park, her work as an assistant professor will include working with students who are seeking doctoral degrees in education.

Both she and Javorsky hold bachelor’s degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Hippert earned her master’s from the University of Pittsburgh, and her administrative certification and doctorate from Duquesne University.

Javorsky earned her master’s, superintendent’s letter of eligibility and supervisor of special education certification from the University of Pittsburgh, where she has completed her doctoral coursework. She also is a certified reading specialist.

The AIU, one of 29 intermediate units in Pennsylvania, provides specialized services to Allegheny County’s 42 suburban school districts and to nonpublic, charter and vocational-technical schools.

The agency serves a liaison to the state Department of Education and operates three schools for exceptional children, 11 family centers and more than 140 programs for children, adults and families.
