USC honors retiring school employees

The Upper St. Clair School Board honored eight district employees with more than 164 combined years of service who will be retiring this year.

Recognized at the board’s June 4 meeting were Cathy Bowen, high school home economics teacher; Vicki Cayuela, Boyce guidance counselor; Joseph Conners, school district chief of police; Dominick Frollini, high school chemistry teacher; Jeffrey Leonhardt, Streams music teacher; Valerie MacWhinnie, Streams school nurse and nurse department head; Barbara Rahr, Streams health/physical education teacher; and Deborah Woodford, Streams aide.

The board approved a contract with Performing Arts Education for the high school’s Pantheon Choir to perform at Carnegie Hall next January.

At their May 21 meeting, the board approved the 2018-19 proposed final budget totaling $83,626,867 which included a recommended 2.8 percent millage increase of 0.7043 mills, which would result in a final millage rate of 25.8603 mills. The annual tax impact on a $223,950 home, the median home value in Upper St. Clair, would be $157.73

The school board will vote on the final budget and taxes on June 20. The meeting begins at 8 a.m. at the district’s central office at 1820 McLaughlin Run Road.
