German Day awards
Bethel Park High School German students earned six awards at the Three Rivers German Day competition, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German. Senior Evan Aronhalt showcased his knowledge of German history, geography and culture by winning the Culture Bowl competition for the second consecutive year. Sophomore Brandon Janus finished in Second Place. This was the 16th consecutive year that a Bethel Park student won this event. Freshman Abby Cannon won First Place in the Proverb Posters event with her rendering of the German proverb, “Geteiltes Leid ist halbes Leid,” which translates to “A problem shared is a problem solved.” Her poster was made to look like a stained glass window featuring the German fairy tale, “The Frog King.” Senior Noah Voskamp finished in Second Place in the Poetry Recitation event with his performance of Goethe’s “Rastlose Liebe,” which translates to “Restless Love.” Sophomore Rachel Najdzinski earned Second Place in the Drawing event for her sketch of Bavaria’s Neuschwanstein Castle. Senior Emily Clarvit received Third Place in the Non-Fiction Writing category for her application to earn a fantasy scholarship to study abroad in Germany.
