Almanac sports editor wins Golden Quill award

Almanac sports editor Eleanor Bailey has won a Golden Quill award for her story on Mt. Lebanon graduate Ian Happ’s memorable homecoming to PNC Park in Pittsburgh last year.
Bailey received the honor May 24 for best sports story by a non-daily newspaper during the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania’s annual awards ceremony in Pittsburgh.
Almanac staff writer Jacob Calvin Meyer also was nominated for best general feature by a non-daily newspaper for his story on how the family of Matt Conover helped to create “Matt’s Maker Spaces” in several Mt. Lebanon elementary schools to honor the former student who died of cancer at age 12 in 2002.
