School: Week of Nov. 14
Parent training night
The Bethel Park School District will hold a Special Services Parent Training Night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Nov. 19, in the Community Room of the Administration Building located at 301 Church Road. The topic for the evening will be “Technology Support Strategies for All Students.”
Speaking that evening will be Kristen Tachoir, TaC coordinator/assistive technology at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit; Bethel Park School District Director of Special Education Lori Sutton; and Assistant Director of Special Education Dr. Sarah Shue.
The evening is free and open to all Bethel Park School District parents, students and staff. Participants are encouraged to bring their own technology device.
Those interested in attending should call the Special Services Department at 412-854-8735 so there are enough handout materials available for everyone in attendance.
Light refreshments will be served, and there will be a drawing for a door prize.
Partners in Education meeting
Upper St. Clair School District’s Partners in Education (PIE) group’s fall presentation is set for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 15, in Boyce Middle School’s large group instruction room.
Ashley Mullen from the Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (OVR) will be on hand to discuss OVR supports and services and to provide information, advocacy and education to prepare students for transition to adult life and employment.
Students who have an Individualized Educational Program (IEP), a 504 Plan, or who are involved with a school’s Student Assistance Program may be appropriate for referrals to OVR programs and services.
Information will be shared on a variety of programs and services including career exploration, transition plans, Goodwill’s GoodSTEPS, Early Reach and P.E.T.S.
Families with an eligible student with a disability may receive assistance from OVR to help students to: Plan for his/her career; Find a job that matches his/her abilities, interests and needs; Work with an employer or college to ensure the student receives reasonable accommodations when he/she needs them.

AP Scholars
Thirty-three Bethel Park High School students were named Advanced Placement Scholars by the College Board, in recognition of those students who have demonstrated college level achievement through Advanced Placement Courses and Exams.
Two students were named National AP Scholars for receiving an average score of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, with scores of 4 or higher on eight or more exams. They are 2018 graduates Evan Aronhalt (attending Case Western Reserve University) and Noah Gearhart (attending Penn State University).
Thirteen students were named AP Scholars with Distinction for receiving an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, with scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. Bethel Park’s AP Scholars with Distinction are 2018 graduates Todd Ackerman (University of Pittsburgh), Natalia Antkowiak (Hofstra University), Kayla Armstrong (Penn State University), Evan Aronhalt (Case Western Reserve University), Emily Clarvit (Allegheny College), Jacob Cunningham (Penn State University), Noah Gearhart (Penn State University), Madison Newman (Purdue University), Brianna Shannon (Purdue University), Greydon Tomkowitz (Penn State University), John Veltum (Virginia Tech) and seniors William Martin-Farmer and Cameron Sillman.
Eight students were named AP Scholars with Honor for receiving an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, with scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. They are 2018 graduates Max McKitrick (University of Maryland), Jacob Opie (Allegheny College), Haley Radcliffe (Duquesne University), Connor Robinette (University of Pittsburgh), Jessica Scarlett (Dickinson College), seniors Jerry Varghese and Anton Yanovich, and junior Hannah Gold.

They are 2018 graduates Andrew Davis (Penn State University), Grace Evans (Alfred University), Elizabeth Hartnett (Fordham University), Garrett Hoffman (Duquesne University), Veronica Johns (Seton Hill University), Sarah Lange (Lumerit), Justin Lesnak (University of Pittsburgh), Blake Melchert (Washington and Jefferson College), William Miller (Duquesne University), Erin Sullivan (Penn State University), Eric Wenger (Penn State University), Joseph Wright (University of Pittsburgh) and seniors Regan Gray and Jillian Sullivan.
