The Mt. Lebanon school board unanimously voted to name Robert Geletko as the district’s next business director at its regular Sep. 17 meeting.

Geletko, currently the Connellsville Area School District assistant to the superintendent for finance and operations, said he will begin working at Mt. Lebanon in early December. He will succeed Janice Klein as director of business.

“It’s my goal here to do what’s best for this community, to be transparent and, be-all-end-all, do what’s best for our students,” Geletko told the board.

Geletko is a registered school business administrator with the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from California University of Pennsylvania and a master’s in education focusing on school business leadership from Wilkes University.

Prior to working at Connellsville, Geletko served as business manager at Penn Hills School District, as an accounting specialist at Bethel Park School District and as an accountant at Baldwin-Whitehall School District. As a private accountant, he previously oversaw audits of school districts and other local forms of government.

At the Sep. 17 meeting, Geletko thanked Steinhauer and the school board for bringing him on. Board President Michael Riemer said that Klein is leaving big shoes to fill, having been cited for exemplary financial management by Pennsylvania School Board Association colleagues.

“You’ll have some things to learn from her in a short period of time, and I’m sure you’re going to do just fine,” he said.

In other school news, the board recently ratified a collective bargaining agreement between the district and the Mt. Lebanon Education Association beginning in January and ending in June 2023. The agreement reflects an average salary increase of 3.9 percent.

The agreement keeps steady the 11.5 percent that teachers contribute to their health care premiums. It includes no increase in the number of workdays for teachers or school days for students.

Superintendent Timothy Steinhauer said in a press release that the agreement provides additional preparation time for teachers throughout the workday. Janice Klein, business director, said the district sought to maximize the amount of time teachers and students both are in the school.

During a regular Sept. 17 board meeting, Board President Michael Reimer called the agreement a positive outcome.

“This agreement provides continued superior education for the students of the Mt. Lebanon School District, and ensures a positive working environment for our teachers while maintaining the fiscal accountability for the taxpayers of the school district,” he said.
