With spring weather in Western Pennsylvania being a roll of the dice, organizers of the first Easter Eggstravaganza in Bethel Park were taking no chances.
Presented by Bethel Park Historical Society, the Palm Sunday event was to take place on the baseball field behind the municipality’s community center, off Park Avenue. But with cold rain settling in with no signs of slowing before the scheduled start, the proceedings moved inside.
Two rooms inside the nearby Schoolhouse Arts and History Center, the historical society’s home, were transformed into egg-gathering locales, with straw spread across the floors for a touch of hen house authenticity.
Youngsters in four age groups proceeded to gather Hershey Kiss-filled plastic eggs, with none of them seeming to mind having a roof over their heads for the festivities. The event also included photo opportunities with the Easter bunny, coloring pictures of eggs and enjoying hot dogs and beverages.
