Mt. Lebanon Uptown Market opens May 11
Every Saturday starting May 11, and into the fall, will be Mt. Lebanon Uptown Market day.
The weekly event, a staple along Washington Road for years, has been rebranded for 2019, with a certain word not in place anymore.

“Carla has done a really good job of making this market not just about farmers,” said Rebecca Wanovich, vice president of the Mt. Lebanon Partnership executive committee.
Her reference is to Carla Clipper, the market’s manager, who has brought in a variety of vendors and entertainers to complement the farmers, who will continue to be a staple.
And as has always been the case, everyone involved is local.
The market, held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays, is an initiative of the nonprofit Partnership, which has the mission of promoting economic growth in Mt. Lebanon. A new attraction this year is a Maker’s Market in Clearview Common, Washington Road at Alfred Street, featuring artists and crafters with their wares.
More than 100 volunteers contribute to the nonprofit organization’s efforts, which include some other Uptown happenings on the horizon.
On May 5, local Girl Scouts will help in a cleanup effort to prepare a series of planters along Washington Road for flowers and other decorative vegetation.

Planting takes place May 18, coordinated by volunteer Annie Skiba with assistance from Patricia Beck of Wild Rose Landscape Design, and funding comes by way of a grant from Gateway Engineers. Dan Deiseroth, the company’s president, lives in Mt. Lebanon.
Starting at noon May 11, just after the Uptown Market closes, is the seventh annual Kids Paint Out. Sponsored by Sandra Ward Studio, the event gives youngsters the opportunity to paint Washington Road scenes of their choice.
On the second Saturday of each month at the market, Farm to Table Western PA will provide cooking demonstrations and the Mackin Family will perform bluegrass music. Local musicians will be featured on other market mornings.
Also regarding music, the Mt. Lebanon Partnership has teamed with WYEP-FM’s Singer-Songwriter Competition to bring contestants for Aug. 8 and 24 performances at Clearview Common.
And music continues to be a big part of the annual First Fridays events, the first of which is scheduled for June 7.
