After living elsewhere in the Pittsburgh area for a decade, Jen Grossman and her husband, Jonathan, decided it was time for a change.

“We moved to the best school district in the area,” she said about their relocation three years ago to Peters Township.

Since then, she has paid close attention to what transpires in the district, and she decided to run for the school board. In November, she garnered the most votes of any candidate, and she was sworn in as the newest director on Dec. 3.

“I recognized that no members of the school board had young kids in the district,” she explained. “I have a first-grader with two more who will join in the next couple of years, and I want to be a voice for those starting in the district. I have a vested interest in making our schools excel, for not only current but future decades.”

Her oldest son, Cason, attends Pleasant Valley Elementary School, and his brothers, Reece and Jake, will be there eventually.

An attorney specializing in real estate – her husband also is a lawyer, with BNY Mellon – Grossman looks forward to starting her term in earnest.

“I think it’s a great time to be coming on the board,” she said. “We were just ranked statewide No. 1 in the Keystone exams, so we’re doing well in education. We have this beautiful new high school being built that’s progressing day by day.”

Her overall viewpoint is nothing but complimentary.

“I’m very happy with my experience thus far with Peters Township School District,” she reported. “I truly feel that the teachers, support staff and administrators are doing a great job. Nevertheless, I hope that I will be able to provide a fresh perspective on school safety, school lunch and additional aspects of the school experience.”

She grew up in Clarks Summit, near Scranton, and is a graduate of La Salle University in Philadelphia and Widener University School of Law in Harrisburg. In addition to her practice, Grossman Law Office, she is a real estate agent with Keller Williams.

The Grossmans moved to Pittsburgh in 2006, just in time to watch their new home’s pro football team come out on top in Super Bowl XL. And despite her coming from basically the other side of the state, that certainly was all right with Jen:

“I root for the Steelers.”
