BP receives grant

The Bethel Park School District was one of 765 Pennsylvania School Districts to receive a $35,000 PAsmart Targeted K12 Computer Science and STEM Education Grant.

The district will use this money to provide computer science education opportunities for the fifth- and sixth-grade students at Neil Armstrong Middle School in an effort to establish a basic skills foundation that will encourage students to pursue computer science electives at the high school level.

For the first part of the grant, Principal Ken Patterson, fifth-grade teacher Robert Wargo and librarian Michelle Minnick will participate in the required training as stipulated by the grant. Once trained, the students in Wargo’s classroom and all sixth-grade students through their library classes will have the opportunity to participate in computer science activities through organizations such as Code.org.
