Collections scheduled for chemicals, hard-to-recycle items

Pennsylvania Resources Council has scheduled events into the fall to help rid homes of chemicals, e-waste and a wide variety of hard-to-recycle materials. All events are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Collections of hard-to-recycle items will take place Aug. 3 at West Mifflin Area High School and Oct. 5 at Settlers Cabin Park in Collier Township. Individuals can drop off “e-waste” such as computer towers and peripheral equipment, cellphones, printer and toner cartridges, compact fluorescent lamp and expanded polystyrene packaging material at no cost.
For a fee, individuals can drop off televisions and computer monitors, alkaline batteries, fluorescent tubes, printers, small Freon appliances and tires.
Upcoming household chemical collections are scheduled for Aug. 17 at Boyce Park, Sept. 21 at South Park and Oct. 12 at Bradys Run Park in Beaver County. Individuals can drop off automotive fluids, household cleaners, pesticides, paints and other household chemicals for a cost of $3 per gallon, a few exceptions apply, cash will only be accepted.
