Probably the most frequently heard word at the 41st annual Peters Township Community Day was “hot.”
And that usually was followed by, “but it beats the alternative.”
As the thermometer neared the 90-degree mark for the June 29 event, plenty of refreshments were available to keep everyone hydrated as guests enjoyed a day of fun under the sun, as opposed to the rain clouds that often gather this time of year.
The upper portion of Peterswood Park was full of booths representing a variety of community organizations and businesses, many of them presenting games, activities and opportunities to win prizes.
During the entertainment portion of the event, Nick DiSanto, One Man Band, returned to play his incomparable “DiSantomophone,” and Howard Mincone made his first Community Day appearance.

Dressed in a black suit and matching derby, the self-described physical comedian combined magic with, well, physical comedy – he didn’t say a word – to amuse and mesmerize folks he met on his travels throughout the park.
Also performing magic, with a show at the park’s amphitheater, was Billy Heh, and a puppet show followed there by the Millennium Marionettes. And as always when the weather cooperates, Community Day festivities culminated with a fireworks display.
