Bethel-St. Clair Rotary event benefits educational, humanitarian programs

The Rotary Club of Bethel-St. Clair continued its tradition of giving with its recent “Harvest Dinner: Dine Around the World” event at Valley Brook Country Club in Peters Township.

Barbara Piconi and Jim Hinerman co-chaired the event, and he gave the invocation.
For 37 years, the club has held similar events, with proceeds supporting local and international educational and humanitarian programs.
Thomas Shook, a World War II veteran and retired Consol executive who started the dinner, attended the 2019 gathering with about 200 other people. He also sponsored the World Famous Viennese Dessert Room for the evening at Valley Brook.
A beneficiary of $50 for each Harvest Dinner ticket is the Rotary Foundation, an endowment established in 1917 by Rotary International “for the purpose of doing good in the world.” Since then, contributions to the foundation have totaled more than $4 billion, with the proceeds awarded for fellowships, scholarships and grants around the globe.
Meetings of the Rotary Club of Bethel-St. Clair are from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays at St. Clair Country Club in Upper St. Clair. Prospective members are welcome to attend.
And mark the date on the calendar: Next year’s Harvest Dinner already has been scheduled for Nov. 5 at Valley Brook.
