Bethel Park taps former director to fill school board vacancy

Bethel Park School Board picked a familiar face to fill a vacancy to the board.
The board appointed Russ Spicuzza at a special meeting Oct. 8.
Spicuzza, who previous tenure on the board spanned nine years, will serve the rest of Cynthia Buckley’s term, which expires in 2021. Buckley died of cancer last month.
This is not the first time Spicuzza was selected to fill a vacancy on the school board. He was appointed to start his first stint on the board in 2008 and then won re-election in 2009 and 2013. He left the board in 2017 after losing his re-election bid.
Four other residents applied for the board vacancy.
