State Sen. Pam Iovino, D-Mt. Lebanon, announced Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program in the South Hills has been awarded $400,000 in grants.

Upper St. Clair received $125,000 to close the gap in the Boyce Mayview Park Perimeter Trail, which connects the northern and southern portions of the park. The trail expansion will add to the existing 4.5 miles of trail around the township’s community and recreational center, and will provide trail users with access to the planned connection with the Montour Trail.

The Allegheny Land Trust received $175,000 to support the Bethel Green Project, which will acquire 40.51 acres of woodlands located in Bethel Park near the intersection of State Route 88 and Connor Road. Conserving this land will support flood control efforts in the flood-prone Saw Mill Run Watershed, improve the long-term attractiveness and economic vitality of the surrounding area, and preserve a well-used recreational green space.

Pleasant Hills Borough received $100,000 to support installation of lighting at the municipality’s public soccer field.

“Access to recreational amenities and natural green space is important to quality of life in the 37th District,” Iovino said. “These grants directly improve and enhance vital recreational and environmental areas in these communities, improving the quality of life for residents. I am proud to have supported these grant applications.”
