Peters Township Girl Scout earns Gold Award
Girl Scouting’s highest awards – Bronze, Silver and Gold – represent a young woman’s opportunity to make a lasting difference in the world.
Peters Township High School senior Emily Trunk has earned the top achievement in Girl Scouting, the Gold Award.
The award, presented by Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania, recognizes girls in ninth through 12th grades who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through sustainable and measurable “Take Action” projects that address community needs.
Emily’s project involved educating the public about the Yellow Dot Program, a cooperative effort among several state agencies to provide vital information in the event of traffic emergencies. Through the program, motorists can place a Yellow Dot decal on their vehicles’ rear windows, containing details for the benefit of first responders.
Providing support for Emily’s project, which she completed in January, were Josh Diesing of Peters Township EMS and representatives from Washington County Agricultural Fair and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
A Girl Scout for 13 years, Emily serves as a Girl Scout Ambassador of Troop 51448. She plans to attend Sweet Briar College in Virginia to study engineering.
