Peters firefighters join with McMurray Rotary, Meals On Wheels to offer assistance
Community organizations in Peters Township are banding together with a program called Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
As part of its emergency management function, the fire department has partnered with the McMurray Rotary Club and Meals on Wheels @ the Crossroads to provide assistance to people who have a high risk of contracting COVID-19.
The program provides a safe platform for connecting with a volunteer who has undergone a background check by Peters Township Police Department, a process that eliminates the potential for scammers.
Volunteers will help acquire necessary items for at-risk individuals, such as those with pre-existing conditions and older adults, allowing them to stay and home and protect their health.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors is managed by Peters Township Fire Department’s emergency management team, with the physical shopping and prescription pickups by McMurray Rotary volunteers. The Rotary club will also handle billing for the items obtained for the resident.
If a resident is requesting nonperishable goods, or is not able to afford a shopping bill, Meals on Wheels will provide food donations for the resident.
Volunteers follow safety guidelines outlined by the emergency management team, led by Lt. Jordan Cramer.
“In times like these, the collaboration and cooperation of community organizations is vital to the well-being of its community members,” he stated in a news release. “Together, we will work to ensure that our most vulnerable citizens remain safe while not jeopardizing their needs.”
