No one harmed in Peters Township incident involving SWAT teams
No one was harmed after Special Weapons and Tactics teams responded to an incident in Peters Township early in the afternoon of April 17.
Peters Township police Chief Douglas Grimes said his department received a report of a domestic situation possibly involving a hostage and barricade, and the scenario met the criteria for calling in the South Hills Area Council of Governments Critical Incident Response Team.
In the 400 block of East McMurray Road, officers set up a perimeter and approached the house, at which time a woman exited and quickly was followed by the alleged gunman, according to Grimes.
He said charges are pending as police continue to investigate.
East McMurray was closed between Center Church Road and Inverness Drive for more than an hour prior to reopening shortly after 2 p.m.
Nearby Pleasant Valley Elementary School was also placed in a lock down as a precaution during the incident.
The Critical Incident Response Team is made up of specially trained police officers from 22 communities in the South Hills. On request, the team responds to incidents such as active shooters, barricaded gunmen, high-risk warrant services and other dangerous situations, usually involving people with firearms.
Washington Regional Special Weapons and Tactics also responded to the scene, as did other law enforcement officers, including from as far away as Moon Township, a South Hills Area Council of Governments member municipality.
