Local Boy Scouts recognized for attaining Eagle rank

Michael Bradley and Sam Jess of Scout Troop 510 in South Park Township were recognized for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout in Court of Honor ceremonies held at New Day Assembly of God in Upper St. Clair and St. Joan of Arc Church in South Park.
The final hurdle in the quest for this highest rank for Boy Scouting is a community service Eagle project. The candidate for Eagle must be in charge of all aspects of the project. The tasks include planning, financing, implementation, completion and final presentation of the completed project to a committee of Boy Scout leaders.
Michael’s Eagle project involved taking down a play set, leveling the ground and putting up a new set for the children at his church, New Day Assembly of God.
Sam’s Eagle Project was constructing a multi-stage compost bin for the garden at St. Joan of Arc Church. Crops from the garden are donated to South Hills Interfaith Ministry food pantry.
Russ Spicuzza, Elk Scouting representative for South Hills Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 2213 in Bethel Park, gave a short congratulatory talk and presented the new Eagle Scout with two framed Certificates of Merit, one each from the local and national Elks lodges, the latter located in Chicago. He also presented personal-sized American flags and gold lapel pins, representing 80-plus years of the relationship between the Elks and Scouting.
