Rotary Club of Bethel-St. Clair hosts 61st annual Pancake Festival

After all, they’ve been working on perfecting the recipe since 1959, the year of their first Pancake Festival. And to show just how delicious the main menu item can be, a onetime senior lineman for the Upper St. Clair High School football team set the all-time all-you-can-eat record with 54 pancakes consumed.
That may be a bit beyond the normal ideal caloric intake, but no matter how many one plans to eat, the 61st annual Pancake Festival is right around the corner, scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 29 at Westminster, 2040 Washington Road, Upper St. Clair. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children up to 12.
More than 100 volunteers work with Rotarians to prepare the church hall and open the doors to serve hot pancakes, link sausage and applesauce. During the past six decades, club members and helpers have served more than 800,000 pancakes to more than 140,000 South Hills residents.
The event over the years has raised more than the equivalent of $1.8 million in current dollars, which the club has distributed to charitable organizations in the South Hills, to local police and fire departments and toward community projects such as planting trees and helping people in need of meals, warm clothes, shelter, transportation and healthcare services.
