Upper St. Clair commissioners started 2020 with the swearing-in of newly elected commissioner Dante Plutko and re-elected commissioners Robert Orchowski, Ronald Pardini, and Rex Waller.

During the Jan. 6 meeting, the board also had their biennial reorganization, re-electing Commissioner Mark Christie as president and electing Dan Paoly as vice-president.

At the same meeting, state Rep. Natalie Mihalek, R-Upper St. Clair, presented a check for the Gaming Economic Development Fund (GEDF) grant of $150,000 for the Morton Complex/Community Gardens Connection, phase 2B perimeter trail project.

The grant money was awarded for the final phase of the perimeter trail which will connect the two ends of the existing paved surface perimeter trail. The trail loops around the over 500-acre Boyce Mayview Park, for a completed length of over five miles. Other grants continue to be pursued to help offset the township’s contribution.

The phase from Rostron Drive toward the Morton Complex, which is being funded at nearly 40% by grants, is being bid and is expected to be completed in the current year.

In other business, the board set Feb. 2 as the date the date for a public hearing for a planned residential development, Tuscany Pointe, at 1500 McLaughlin Run Road.
