A glass-recycling container is in place at Peters Township Fire Department’s Station 1, 245 E. McMurray Road.

Peters Township residents can drop off their glass items from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Only glass will be accepted: no bags, boxes or lids.

The glass recycling drop-off container was provided to the Township by the Pennsylvania Resources Council as part of a pilot program to establish permanent glass recycling sites in communities, assistant township manager Ryan Jeroski said. PRC wants to monitor the early use of sites like the one in Peters to determine the effectiveness of this particular model for glass recycling.

The township will only pay for the cost of hauling the container once it is full.

The township also is giving consideration for a long-term glass recycling program, which may involve a further partnership with the PRC or a private hauler, Jeroski noted.
